This week our schools were involved in a food drive in memory of former staff member Barb Norton. Barb was a teacher in Wapakoneta for 22 years and was very involved in community service. Each year the school collects canned goods and donates them to our local food pantry. This year the schools collected over 5000 items and additional cash.
Four members of the FFA were able to attend a leadership conference in Columbus in the Ohio Statehouse Atrium. The morning workshop informed them about important issues and helped to prepare them to advocate for agricultural education and the FFA.

The students at the middle school have been working hard in the classroom, doing community service and taking part in educational field trips.
Our young people were able to travel to the Lima Symphony Orchestra this month as well as the Wright Patterson Air Force Base. The trips were a great opportunity for our kids to see music performed at a high level and learn about how flight has changed over the years. There were many comments on how well our kids behaved.
Coming up on November 11 we will have the Veteran's Day assembly. We are honored to recognize our Veterans!
As part of Red Ribbon Week, students learned about the dangers of drugs, performed community service with the Barb Norton food drive, and ended the week with an assembly. Thank you to Mrs. Fisher and our staff for making it an educational and fun event!
School safety
This year the middle school staff has been spending a great deal of time focusing on the safety of our students and the staff. In fact, on our two hour professional development day they worked with our administration and school resource officer to be better prepared for emergencies.

Teachers at WES are using Class Dojo to communicate with our families this year. It allows parents and the teacher to have ongoing communication about assignments, what is going on in the classroom, behavior, and more.
Students in Mrs. Schmerge's class receive a reward day for their efforts in Class Dojo!
Community Helpers
Our 1st grade students spent time learning about, and dressing like, community helpers, during the 1st quarter. We want to make sure our young people know how important of a role the people play in making our community what it is!
