Wapakoneta City Schools

August 2025 Back to School Redskin Report

This is the first newsletter of the 2025/2026 school year. It is going to be another outstanding year and we want to thank you for allowing us to educate your children!

Back-to-School Celebration

back to school celebration

Parents,

It is the end of July and at Wapakoneta City Schools we are working hard to have everything in place for the students' first day of school.   As always, I am excited to see our young people back in the classroom!  Seeing the energy they bring to the buildings and watching them learn and grow is the reason we are all here.  The first day of school will be August 19, and I know we will have another successful school year.

This summer our staff has been busy updating our facilities so that we can continue to have some of the best in the state.  New flooring, technology improvements, new lockers, school buses, and much more.  To give our young people the best education possible, our staff has continued to invest countless hours in professional development and training.  We have also invested in new textbook series and curriculum in multiple subjects in all our school buildings. Our dedicated staff truly cares about our kids and continually looks at how they can improve their skills and their tools to help them achieve.

This summer we have had a successful summer camp, our food service staff distributed food to hundreds of families throughout the month of June, and our coaches and advisors have been running sport and band camps. Activities in and around the buildings never end.   I want to thank all our custodians, maintenance staff, food service, secretaries and support staff for all they do in getting our district ready for your kids. This group of people are always working to help us  #bebetter!

As you enjoy the rest of your summer break, I want you to know that we will continue to do everything we can to be prepared to give your children the best educational experience possible.  I am confident that all our staff members will be ready when August 19 comes around.  I would also like to take this chance to invite you to our “Back-to-School Celebration” on August 14. We hope you can make it!

At Wapakoneta City Schools, we love our students. We will continue to do everything we can to give them an outstanding school year.  Enjoy your summer and we will see you on August 14 and August 19!

Go Redskins,

Aaron Rex, Superintendent

Get Involved!

We want to encourage all our students to get involved in extracurricular activities that are happening at the high school.  There are many teams, clubs, and groups that our students can join.  We believe that students will have a better high school experience if they take the initiative to get involved!

Other Important Information

Other Important Information:

At WHS there is no set class supply list.  However, we would recommend that you purchase pens, pencils, loose paper, 6-7 folders, 2-3 three-ring binders, a few spiral notebooks that you can tear paper out of, and any other items that you feel you need to start school.  We also recommend you have a pair of headphones available for use with the Chromebooks.  On the first day of school, your teachers will share with you the specific items you will need for that particular class, but it shouldn’t involve much more than what is listed above.  If you have specific questions, please call the High School office.

All students need a calculator for math. The math department recommends the TI-30XIIS (which was given to the students at the middle school) or the TI-84 Plus CE (graphing calculator).

Which one should your child get? If they are going to take 8th grade Algebra, are college bound, or their track at WHS will include Precalculus, they should have the TI-84 Plus CE. If not, the TI-30XIIS is sufficient.

If purchasing a calculator, please wait to open it until school is in session to ensure you have the appropriate device.
